Language Arts

The mission of the Language Arts Department is to instill in our students knowledge of literary history with an understanding of religious, moral, and social values relevant to the young man's developing faith life. By teaching creative, persuasive, expository writing, critical thinking and interpretation of literature, we are committed to meeting the broad academic and social demands of the spectrum of students enrolled at CBC.

Our department makes every effort to utilize new approaches to the classics and incorporate non-traditional literature, as well.  Students are exposed to a diverse variety of works from a variety of traditions and perspectives including African American, Native American and female authors, as well as international works.

Students are taught to learn cooperatively using all types of available resources and technologies because research suggests that critical thinking can be supported by technology and collaboration.

Ultimately, our mission is to help or students make sense of the overwhelming amounts of information and help them understand how to collaborate and communicate in a global environment.
