Our Students Make Us Stronger In So Many Ways
It's ceremony season.
The months of April and May are quite crowded on our school calendar as we gather at events and celebrations to honor our young men. We are home to 900+ exceptional students with so many special gifts - we'll never be able to honor all of them, but we do our very best to recognize as many of their acts of courage, service and accomplishment as possible.
One event that is starred and circled on the calendars of the CBC faculty and staff is the annual Touching Hearts Ceremony. The early-morning prayer service honors members of the senior class nominated for making an exceptional impact on the lives of their teachers.
"The idea for this ceremony started during a faculty Lasallian reflection," explains Guidance Counselor Walt Kempf. "As we discussed our effort to touch the hearts of our students, one faculty member noted that it's not a one-way street - our students touch our hearts and inspire us, as well."
The highlight of the event comes as each student hears a description of the impact he has had on his teachers and our school community. Learning all the creative and selfless ways in which so many young men have made a difference is uplifting for the parents, teachers and classmates in attendance. And while some of the seniors may be bashful at the beginning of the ceremony, they are all beaming with pride come the end of the memorable service.
Celebrating the gifts and talents of every young man is a hallmark of Lasallian education. The Touching Hearts Ceremony is yet another way our community comes together to recognize and give thanks for the blessings bestowed upon our students - and the gifts they return to our CBC family.
Here are a few of the stories and examples offered by our faculty.
Special thanks to our Counseling Department for delivering this special event in coordination with our Campus Ministry team. Both of these groups have a passion for helping our boys grow into young men prepared to lead successful lives rooted in their faith.
