Football wins fourth state championship

The CBC football team finished 13-1, including a 13-game win streak, and has now won three state titles in five seasons and four in eight years.

Coach Pingel, who took over the program in 2008, has amassed a career record of 143-27 that includes 10 Metro Catholic Conference championships, six trips to the state championship game and more than 100 players who have gone on to continue their athletic and academic careers in college.

The Cadets defense, under the director of long-time defensive coordinator Butch Dimovitz, shined in Saturday's championship game with six turnovers -- three interceptions and three fumble recoveries -- including an interception return for a touchdown by senior cornerback Justus Johnson and a fumble recovery return for a touchdown by junior linebacker Michael Teason.

Junior running back Jeremiyah Love, who won the Missouri state 100-meter dash championship in the spring, rushed for 127 yards and two touchdowns. Senior quarterback Patrick Heitert threw for 96 yards and two touchdowns -- to senior Ayden Robinson-Wayne and junior Dakotah Mayo -- and rushed for 82 yards.

The Cadets, who entered the game with more than 3,000 yards rushing and more than 3,000 yards passing this season, rushed for 271 yards in the championship game behind the efforts of Love, Heitert, junior running back Dylan Van and a tough and talented offensive line.
