Basketball team wins seventh state title

The Cadets (26-6) closed out the 2021-22 season by winning their final 13 contests and captured their first state championship since 2014, which was the first season for Justin Tatum '97 as CBC's head coach. The state title is the third for Tatum as a coach and fourth overall after winning a championship as a senior at CBC in 1997.

Senior guards Robert Martin and Larry Hughes led the way in the title game. Martin scored 16 of his 18 points in the first half. Hughes scored 14 of his 20 points in the second half. Martin and Hughes each made three 3-pointers.

Sophomore center John Bol finished with eight points, seven rebounds and five blocked shots. Senior guard Justus Johnson added seven points and three steals. Senior guard Kendall Huston added six points.

The Cadets took a four-point lead into halftime and then outscored Nixa (28-4) 17-9 in the third quarter to extend their lead. CBC made 13 of 16 free throw attempts (81.3 percent) in the second half to secure the victory.
