CBC High School Names New Head Basketball Coach

Christian Brothers College High School (CBC) is pleased to announce the selection of Sam Briscoe as the new Head Coach of the CBC Basketball program. Coach Briscoe brings a wealth of experience and a deep passion for inspiring personal drive in student-athletes through motivational training and skill development.

As the Head Boys Basketball Coach at Kirkwood High School, Coach Briscoe led the varsity team to an impressive 24-3 record in the 2022-2023 season. He oversaw one of the largest turnarounds in school history, elevating the team from nine wins in the previous season to 24 wins. Prior to coaching at Kirkwood, Briscoe served as the Assistant Mens Basketball Coach at Drury University. He has also coached with the Gateway Basketball Club, where he showcased his skills in player development.

A committee was formed to identify the ideal head coaching candidate, which included alumni Larry Hughes '97 and Jordan Barnes ‘16. Hughes led CBC to a State Championship in 1997 and went on to play 14 seasons in the NBA, helping five teams to the NBA playoffs. Commenting on the results of the search, Hughes shared, "I am excited for the new chapter of CBC basketball, and I am happy to welcome Sam Briscoe into the purple and gold family. Congratulations, coach! Let's get to work."

Jordan Barnes helped lead the CBC basketball team to a Class 5 State Championship in 2014, played for former head coach Justin Tatum, and had a successful 4-year career at Indiana State University, where he reached the Top 10 in career scoring, 3-pointers made, assists, and steals. Barnes currently plays professionally in Germany. Barnes shared his support of the committee’s selection, stating,  "Sam is a hard worker. He knows the game of basketball and knows how to get the best out of his players. Sam is a great fit for the program and the CBC community."

Justin Gage, a current CBC parent who played both basketball and football at Mizzou, leading to a career in the NFL as a wide receiver with the Chicago Bears and Tennessee Titans, joined in the committee’s decision to select Briscoe. Gage highlights “Sam’s energy and basketball IQ,” confident that he will continue to build a strong program and develop character in our student-athletes.

CBC is ready to embark on this new chapter under the leadership of Coach Briscoe. With his expertise, commitment, and genuine passion for the game, CBC's Basketball Program is poised for continued success both on and off the court.

"Sam is enthusiastic about teaching the game of basketball and using the sport as a component to making these young men Brothers for Life, says Scott Pingel, Director of Athletics."

In his own words, Coach Briscoe expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead the Basketball Program at CBC, "I am humbled to be named the next head coach at CBC High School. It is an honor and privilege that I will not take lightly. CBC has a rich history of pursuing excellence both on the court and in the classroom, and I am excited to be a part of a program whose expectation is to be exceptional."
