Christian Carter Mason named CBC's Martin Luther King, Jr., Model of Justice Award recipient

Christian Carter Mason has been named Christian Brothers College High School's 2025 Martin Luther King, Jr., Model of Justice Award recipient.

Mason is among 28 area teenagers from Catholic parishes and high schools in the St. Louis Archdiocese to receive the Model of Justice Award honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., for 2025.

"Christian embodies the spirit of service, inclusion, and leadership that Dr. King championed," Tom Eichwald '07, CBC's Vice President of Mission & Ministry, wrote of Mason in his nomination letter. "He is a dedicated and talented student, always present and actively engaged in his work. Outside of the classroom, he has sought and capably fulfilled a variety of leadership roles, including leading the 2023 Sankofa Civil Rights Pilgrimage to Birmingham and Montgomery, Alabama, where he immersed himself and his peers in the rich history of the Civil Rights Movement.

"Christian’s dedication to diversity and inclusion at CBC has been exemplary," Eichwald wrote. "He has been an active member of the school's Diversity, Inclusion, and Leadership Club since its inception, and he also spent two summers volunteering with TASK STL, creating a safe, inclusive environment for children with special needs. Additionally, through his participation in the St. Louis Internship Program (SLIP), Christian had the opportunity to work with the Skills Trade Exploration Program (STEP), where he and his team built and donated a shed to the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Following this experience, he sought further involvement, working with Missouri Women in Trades (MOWIT) to remodel a bathroom at a local women’s shelter. Christian’s membership in the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) has further strengthened his resolve to give back to his community. Currently, he is participating in Project PAVE, a STEM and leadership initiative that has led to a new partnership opportunity for CBC’s Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion program."

Eichwald said Mason exemplifies the values of justice, service, and leadership that Dr. King cherished.

Mason was recognized at an all-school prayer service on Friday, Jan. 17, at CBC High School will be recognized at the 49th annual Mass for the Preservation of Peace and Justice, which commemorates the birth and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., on Sunday, Jan. 19, at the Cathedral Basilica.
