Christian Brothers College High School (CBC) announced a change in leadership of the soccer program on Friday, with Randy Roy ’06 taking over the head coaching duties in place of longtime coach Terry Michler ‘65.
“We are incredibly grateful for everything Coach Michler has done for CBC High School during his five-decade career, and we are excited for the next chapter as Coach Roy gets the opportunity to build on that tradition and lead the state’s most successful soccer program,” Scott Pingel, CBC’s Director of Athletics, said.
Roy helped CBC win back-to-back state championships in 2004 and 2005 as a high schooler before playing his college soccer at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. He was named the Cougars’ Student-Athlete of the Year as a senior.
“He has been arguably the best leader to come through this program in the last decade,” said Kevin Kalish, Roy’s college coach at SIUE, back in 2011. “His will to win was one of a kind.”
Roy, who joined the CBC faculty as a health teacher in 2022, served as the interim soccer coach in 2023 and led the Cadets to a 17-7-2 record and the Class 4 District 2 championship. He has served as Michler’s assistant in recent seasons as well.
Michler was named CBC’s head soccer coach in 1971 and led the Cadets to nine of the school’s 10 state championships during his 53 seasons at CBC. He has recorded 1,070 victories as a high school coach, including one season leading Bishop Hogan in Kansas City.
