ST. LOUIS, MO (June 26, 2025) – Christian Brothers College High School has named Scott Brown as the new head baseball coach after Mason Horne, CBC’s coach since 2010, announced he will not be returning as baseball coach for the 2025-2026 season.
“We are excited to have Scott Brown lead our baseball program once again,” CBC Director of Athletics Scott Pingel said. “His vast experience and knowledge will be a tremendous asset for our young men going forward.”
“We want to thank Coach Horne for all he has done to elevate our baseball program for the last 16 years,” Pingel said. “He also helped us build our baseball stadium and has maintained it for years.”
Brown, who is also CBC’s Assistant Director of Athletics, coached the Cadets from 1990 to 2009, becoming the school’s winningest baseball coach, and won 13 district titles and made two trips to the state’s final four in 18 seasons. He coached at Vianney from 2011 to 2021, becoming the winningest coach in school history there, and led the school to the 2018 Class 5 state championship among four trips to the final four.
Brown, who has 553 career wins as a high school head coach, served as an assistant coach and pitching coach at CBC the past three seasons.
“It’s been great to be back these past three years as an assistant coach and I cannot be more excited to have another opportunity to be the head coach,” Brown said. “I know I have grown a lot since I was last in this position and am excited to be back home at CBC. I am really excited about the team we have coming back. We have several starters returning and I’m eager to see how far they can go with their talents.”
Horne, who will continue teaching at CBC, led the Cadets to Missouri state championships in 2010 and 2015 as well as a runner-up finish in 2013 and a fourth-place finish in 2021. Horne’s Cadets won 318 games, making him the winningest baseball coach in school history, and seven district titles in 15 seasons.
“After much thought I have decided to step down as head coach,” Horne said. “It’s been an unbelievable journey but I feel it’s time for a change, time for a new voice and time for me to put my focus on spending more time with my family. To the underclassmen, I’m sorry that I will not be your coach but with you the program is in a great place and I will be supporting you every step of the way as you work toward a state title.”
Three of Horne’s former CBC players are currently playing major league baseball: Jake Burger (Texas Rangers), Matt Vierling (Detroit Tigers) and Devin Williams (New York Yankees).
“I want to thank from the bottom of my heart all of the current and former players and their families, our alumni, the administration and Cadets Nation for all of the support over the years,” Horne said. “It has been an honor to represent you all.”
