Logan Szachnieski named CBC's Archbishop May Service Award winner

Congratulations to senior Logan Szachnieski, who has been named CBC High School's recipient of the Archbishop John L. May Service Award for 2026.

"Logan inspires me with his embodiment of a 'Man for Tomorrow' who is 'guided by faith, strengthened by intellect, committed to justice, and prepared to lead and serve,'" Tom Eichwald '07, Vice President of Mission and Ministry at CBC, wrote in his nomination letter. "Logan is an outstanding student, excelling in some of our most rigorous courses. He is a varsity athlete and state qualifier in cross country this fall. He is also active in National Honor Society, our STEM program and our weekly Brothers in Prayer group."

"Logan has established an exemplary record of service, amassing more than 280 approved hours with many more that are not reflected in official records," Eichwald wrote. "He has served his school well in myriad roles, and has been a regular volunteer with our annual CBC TASK camp in the summer. Last year, he participated in a service trip to Peru, where he worked with his classmates and residents of a remote village to build a road that would foster access and connection. His greatest passion, though, is ministry, and he has sought out every opportunity to help lead retreats here at school and in his parish."

Szachnieski is an outstanding example of what a life firmly and joyfully rooted in the Gospel looks like, Eichwald wrote.

“Ultimately, my service at CBC and outside of it has formed me into someone who strives to live out the Gospel values: compassion, justice, and self-giving love," Szachnieski wrote in his nomination letter. "The Gospel calls us to serve ‘the least of these’ and that exhortation has come to guide me in my everyday decisions of how I treat others, how I use my leadership, and how I respond when I encounter inequality.”
