After graduating from CBC, Brad Edwards ‘04 built a career in entrepreneurship, sales, and community engagement. He currently serves as the Director of Community Engagement & Program Strategy at Dear Fathers, where much of his work centers around fatherhood and men’s wellness, including programs such as Dads to Doulas and Str8 Mental. Brad said, “A lot of that work focuses on the health and wellness of Black men and Black families, but in many ways, it has also been part of my own growth and wellness journey. Most importantly, I’m a father to two amazing children, and that role shapes everything I do.”
Looking back, Brad credits CBC with teaching him the value of brotherhood and relationships, and these are lessons he continues to carry with him throughout his life and in the work he does today. As he reflects on the relationships he made during his time at CBC, Brad explains, “Even when we weren’t in constant contact, that connection and brotherhood remained. CBC showed me that relationships can continue to grow long after you leave the building.”
For future Cadets, Brad encourages students to take advantage of all the opportunities in front of them. “Build real relationships, get involved, try things outside of your comfort zone, and don’t feel pressured to have your entire life figured out. Some of the people, lessons, and opportunities around you today may not reveal their full value until years from now. Focus on becoming a good man, not just building an impressive résumé.”
As Brad continues to build relationships and strengthen communities through his work, the importance of brotherhood instilled during his time at CBC continues to influence him today. While reflecting on the lasting impact of the CBC community, he shares, “The older I get, the more I understand the importance of community. CBC gave me an early example of what it means to belong to something bigger than yourself. Much of the work I do today is about creating that same sense of brotherhood, support, and opportunity for other men and families. In many ways, that connection comes full circle.”
