Academic Support

The Counselors are a great place to go when starting to struggle academically.  We can help with ideas and tips, facilitating teacher communication, and by giving each student a safe, secure place to discuss what might be “getting in the way” of doing his best. Just email or come up and see us!

TEACHERS

Our teachers are available at various times to help students outside of classroom time. These times include before and after school, during Office Hours (part of Advisory time), in the Learning Resource Center, and by appointment. This is often the most beneficial first step for a student to take.

BEFORE/AFTER SCHOOL

Students who arrive early or leave late can find numerous places to get help, study and do homework. A few of the best include classrooms where teachers are present, the Learning Resource Center, and the Guidance Office. Each of these is generally quiet, with helpful adults and students nearby to help, if needed.

OFFICE HOURS

Office Hours are available when requested in advance directly with the teacher.

ACADEMIC LABS DURING OFFICE HOURS

Ask your core teacher about these labs where teachers are available to help with core subjects, including World Language.

RESPONSE TO INTERVENTION (RtI)

Response to Interventions (RtI) is the name of the pyramid of interventions we have at CBC.  Academic Recovery and Subject-Specific Interventions are both targeted interventions within our RtI program for struggling students.  Academic Recovery is mandated for students who are failing.  Subject Specific Interventions are for students who are struggling with a key concept in a subject to move forward in that class.

LEARNING RESOURCE CENTER

The Learning Resource Center (LRC) is open between 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. for all students who may need homework assistance, make-up tests, and for students with testing accommodations. Students are free to use the LRC as a quiet place for study or homework. This is a great place to go for homework help before, during, and after school and there is always a math teacher available.
